Rain washes India’s hunt for lead

BTC News Sports Desk: India were in drivers seat after ending the day with 52 for 1 at the end of day 4. Needing only 157 runs to win in 98 overs, it was looking safe for the Indian team to take the lead in the series. But rain washed away all the hopes.
Captain Virat Kohli rued the missed opportunity of going one up against England in the ongoing series as a washout on the final day forced the first test to end in a draw. India’s batting lineup is quite strong and Bumrah’s tight line and length created serious problems for England. If Joe Root had not scored 109 runs, England would not have got a lead of 209 runs.
Rain forced a draw after the final day’s play of the first Test at Trent Bridge, Nottingham, was washed out on Sunday. Play was called off shortly after tea because of a steady drizzle and a wet outfield. Needing 209 for victory, India were 52 for 1 at stumps on Day IV. The second test will begin on Thursday at Lord’s Cricket Ground.
