South African Speedster ends his long spell

North 24 Parganas (India) correspondent: Dale Steyn, the South African speedster retires after his fine spell of 20 years. He announced his retirement from all formats of cricket on Tuesday. Virender Sehwag called him “fire”, Kevin Pietersen who considers the greatest fast bowler in all conditions, will be missed all around the globe.
Steyn, 38, is South Africa’s highest wicket – taker with 439 strikes in 93 games. In his 17- year long career, the right-arm fast bowler also owns 260 wickets in the game’s white-ball formats. He had quit Test cricket two years ago but could play only three T20Is thereafter. His last International match was in March 2020, when he turned out for the Proteas in a T20I against Australia .
He hoped to play in the TWO World Cup last year, but then the tournament was post-poned owing to Covid-19 pandemic. He, however, turned out in T20 franchise leagues from time to time, including in Pakistan Super League (PSL) in March this year.
Pat Cummins from Australia said: “Congrats on a remarkable career. Set the standard for fast bowlers world round to follow for 20 years. No better competitor to watch in full flight, enjoy retirement mate!All time great.” Legendary Wasim Akram also wished him best of luck for a brilliant career and for his future through his Tweeter handle.
