North 24 Parganas (India) correspondent: The Taliban faced the instance of protest against their coup as protestors take the streets and were killed. A public display of dissent in the northwestern city of Jalalabad was met by force. Taliban fighters fired into the crowd and beat protesters and journalists.
Despite the risk of getting killed by the Talibans, residents continue to protest on the streets through the main shopping street, whistling, shouting and bearing large flags of the Afghan Republic.
For the new Taliban government, the jarring images of violence at the protest – as well as images of chaos and people being beaten while trying to approach Kabul’s airport in order to flee the country – have undermined their efforts to present themselves as responsible stewards of the government.
