Pope and Woakes take the lead

North 24 Parganas (India) correspondent: The Indian bowlers, especially, Umesh Yadav, who is making a comeback into Indian Test squad, was quite impressive. He along with Bumrah reduced England to 62 for 5. Indian team thought their score of 191 is enough and they would probably take lead. But Ollie Pope and Chris Woakes had other plans.
Ollie Pope came out after the fall of 4 wickets. He played a vital role in two major partnerships which eventually helped England to take a lead of 99 runs – 89 run stand with Jonny Bairstow and 71 runs with Moeen Ali. Pope personally scored a score of 81 of 159 balls. Of the tail enders, Woakes played a brilliant knock of 50 runs of 60 balls.
A’s for India’s bowling, the morning certainly began well for India as they took a little time to remove overnight batsmen Craig Overton and Dawid Malan. Umesh Yadav seemed to have vindicated the team management’s brilliant decision to bring him in for Mohammed Shami, dismissing both batters.
Also, Umesh Yadav also became the 16th Indian bowler and sixth pacer to claim 150 or more wickets in Test Cricket. The leading wicket taker for India in Tests is Kapil Dev with 434 wickets in 131 Tests.
