Pele goal stopper awarded Bagan Ratna

BTC News Sports Desk: 29th July was and always will be an iconic day for Mohun Bagan and its countless supporters. Over a century ago, it was on this eventful day that an Indian football team changed the course of history by defeating a British club – East Yorkshire Regiment – to lift the IFA Shield. 1911 will always be known as the year of the \’Egaro or Immortal XI\’ – the barefeet victors who led Mohun Bagan right into the record books of Indian football.
Former Indian goalkeeper, Shibaji Banerjee, will be bestowed with Mohun Bagan Ratna Award posthumously. He is a green and maroon legend, who is best remembered for stopping a free kick taken by legendary footballer Pele in the 1977 exhibition match against New York Cosmos. The friendly match ended in a 2-2 draw. The match was played at Eden Gardens.
Roy Krishna, the ATK Mohun Bagan forward, is conferred with the best footballer of the season . Abhimanyu Easwaran and Bidisha Kundu will awarded the best cricketer and best athlete awards respectively.
