Mentor of Legends perishes

North 24 Parganas (India) correspondent: Vasudeo Paranjape, the cricket coach, who mentored those  Indian cricketers, who in their respective futures became legends, expires. He mentored players like Sunil Gavaskar (who was nicknamed ‘Sunny’ by him) , Dilip Vengsarkar, Sourav Ganguly, Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul David, Yuvraj Singh and Rohit Sharma. He passed away on Monday in Mumbai after prolonged illness.
Paranjape played 29 first-class matches between 1956 and 1970 for Mumbai cricket team and Baroda cricket team. He was part of the Mumbai side which won the Ranji Trophy on 12 occasions. He ended up his first-class career with 785 runs with a best score of 127 against Baroda which came during the 1964 Ranji Trophy.
He was survived by his wife, two daughters and a son named Jatin who was also former Indian cricketer and also a National Selector. He also served as a coach at National Cricket Academy. His son Jatin co-authored a book titled Cricket Drona which was based on the life story of Vasudeo Paranjape.
