Lewis Hamilton faces serious sanctions over DRS irregularities

North 24 Parganas (India) corresponden: Despite taking pole position during Friday‘s F1 qualifying 3 classification at Brazil GPLewis Hamilton is being investigated by FIA over irregularities on his DRS. As soon as he defeated Max Verstappen, the Red Bull racer approached to Hamilton’s back of the car to confirm something was off. The levels of speed Hamilton reached during Firday’s practices were far from normal and he is currently in danger of getting a hefty sanction.
As of now, the Mercedes driver faces starting from the back of the grid or the pit lane for Saturday’s sprint race and then any progress made could be thwarted by receiving a further 5 place grid penalty for Sunday’s race for taking a new Internal Combustion Engine (ICE). Drag reduction system (DRS) is a form of driver adjustable bodywork that helps reduce the aerodynamic drag that helps drivers increase their speed and promote overtaking opponents. Apart from this possible sanction, Lewis Hamilton could even face complete ejection from the Brazilian Grand Prix if the investigation portrays him as a cheater.
Right after winning the Interlagos practice, FIA released the following statement: “The uppermost rear wing element adjustable positions were checked on car number 44 for compliance with Article 3.63 of the 2021 Formula One Technical Regulations. The requirement for the minimum distance was fulfilled. But the requirement for the maximum of 85mm, when the DRS system is deployed and tested in accordance with TD/011-19, were not fulfilled.” Right now, Hamilton and the Mercedes team are meeting with FIA representatives in order to determine how to move forward.
