BTC News Sports Desk: With Subhman Gill out of squad due to injury and Mayank Agarwal out of form, KL Rahul could be the most viable option for the opening slot with Rohit Sharma. Rahul seems to grab the eye of the selectors, ahead of the first test against England in Nottingham. He made a brilliant century in the warm-up game at Durham on Tuesday.
India reached a score of 306 for 9 at the end of Day 1. India’s top order was a total failure as Rohit, Pujara and Vihari got good starts but failed to capitalise on them. Jadeja’s 75 and Rahul’s 101 helped India to get to a respectable score.
The Indians played the day with a black armband to mount the demise of 1983 World Cup winning team member, Yashpal Sharma. India played without Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Tahan as they both decided to take rest because of fitness concerns.
Rohit led the side in the warm up game. India’s Avesh Khan and Washington Sundar turned out for ECB’s Select County XI after the home team lost players due to injury and Covid-19 related isolation.
