57th birth anniversary of Rituparna Ghosh

Today is the birthday of one of the most astounding and distinguished directors of all time, Rituparna Ghosh. He was placed on the same table as of other great directors of Bengali Film Industry such as Satyajit Ray, Hrithik Ghatak etc., who through their works changed the face of Tollywood.
Today, in the year 1963, he was born in Kolkata. His parents were also associated with film industry. As a student he was quite brilliant. He completed his academics from South Point High School. He then graduated from Jadavpur University in Economics.
He started his career with an advertising agency as a creative artist. “Hirer Angti”, the first film made under his direction was released in 1992. His second film, “Unishe April” was released in 1994, for which he was bestowed with National Award.
He was awarded with 12 national awards and several international awards in his two decade long career. He was also one of the prominent  figures in Indian LGBT society. In his last days, he researched on the life of a transgender. He directed many films like, “Chokher Bali”, “Chintrangada”, “Dosar” etc, which are critically appreciated till now. He breathed his last on 30th May 2013.
